Lybrook wrapped up a really special week with a great assembly! We received a grant that provided a residency with Guy from Worlds of Music. He spent the week working with Ms. Miller in our music classes, focusing on kindness, and finding peace and joy through mindfulness and music. Our assembly celebrated our learning from the week together!

It was a great day for Lybrook's Science Olympiad team today as they joined teams from around the county at LMC for some scientific fun!

First graders and Fourth graders had a really great time at the Andrews University Gymnastics show today! We're so thankful for the chance to be inspired to do hard things, right in our backyard!

It's an exciting week at Lybrook as we have our friend Guy from World's of Music joining us all week in music classes! The focus is kindness and we will wrap up the week with an assembly with Guy, always a big favorite!

I’m Hanns, a building trades and woodworking instructor. In addition to teaching basic design and construction skills, I love sharing my passions for sailing, voyaging, and boat building with my students.
In 1995, I built my first boat, and in 1998, I started sailing tall ships. Since then, I’ve built six boats and overseen four boat building classes.
I have served aboard Appledore IV, Appledore V, the schooner Huron Jewel, and am currently crew aboard the schooner Serenity.
My woodworking students have built numerous boats in various school shops, but we are capable of building something bigger, a tall ship for the Great Lakes and beyond.
Now, I've finally found a school that will let me do this—Eau Claire High School in lower southwest Michigan. We are a small, high-poverty, rural school not far from Benton Harbor, MI.
We will build Appledore VI, a 85' ft gaff-rigged schooner.
With our school's permission, my building trades class will first build a pole barn on our campus. Big C Lumber, the local lumberyard, will support the project by donating the pole barn materials, but we'll need funds for electrical service hook-up, site preparation, etc.
Then we can start building our ship.

Building this tall ship will teach the students valuable work skills that can help them in the workplace and in life. It will also teach them how to work as a team to achieve goals.

What a great day at Lybrook as we wrapped up our Reading Month fun! Cozy Reading Day found us enjoying lots of stories with guest readers, our assembly with contest winners and our final Mystery Reader fun!
